Policies

This is an artistic dance company 

​

There are 2 seasons for the Dance Theater Division of Support Performing Arts, (the mother company).  

Short Season - consists of the same policies with a shorter season: Approximately  May - September with 1 performance, plus special events.  

The full  Season will consist of a full-year commitment and will include 3 performances throughout the season plus special events.

 

1. Special auditions will be held twice per year. The specific dates will be announced on the provided calendar and on our website.

2.  Audition requirements - previous dance technique is preferred or required. All artists must undergo the application/audition process and be accepted into the Company to participate in its benefits.

3.  Company Classes

  • All members/dancers are required to attend company classes at no charge. The Images Company is not required to take company classes, however, they have the option to attend.

  • Classes will consist of 2 hours per week: 1 hour of ballet and 1 hour of technique provided by SPA.

4.   Performances  - The company will present a minimum of three performances per year. This is intended for the full year Company.  The partial year will include 1 local performance and any special events scheduled.

5.  Rehearsals - Scheduled rehearsal is required. This will be approximately 2 hours per week except for special circumstances.  In special cases, if rehearsal is extended, it will not be included in the attendance requirements.

  • The rehearsal schedule may be consolidated into one day at the discretion of the director. This will be announced before your commitment. 

  • Rehearsal times will consist of 2-3 hours per week. (plus company classes).

6. Alternate Card (Re-Audition Card) An alternate card will be issued to dancers who demonstrate the potential to become a principal member but are not yet accepted into the company. These dancers:

  • Will be accepted but placed on hold.

  • Will attend company classes at no charge until the next audition period or until moved into a permanent position or as a sub.

  • Must re-audition to gain full acceptance into the company and participate in performances unless previously moved up.

8-  Artistic Direction

  • The Artistic Director is currently, Lyn Knight.

  • Additional choreographers will be hired as needed at the discretion of the Artistic Director.

  • Other duties and authority of the Artistic Director - The Artistic Director holds authority over all artistic decisions, including choreography, hiring additional choreographers, and overall creative direction and content. The director will report progress at regular Board meetings.

7. Rehearsal Site The rehearsal site will be in Chesterton/Portage/Valparaiso. TBA

8. Company Size - The company will have a limited amount of dancers. 

​

9. Expansion of Company Size - The goal is to expand to three companies and increase the size of each. Additional companies will be implemented as funds allow.

​

10. Costumes - Company dancers will not be charged for performing costumes. Costumes remain the property of the Company.

​

11.  Commitment Requirements - Company members are required to commit through the end of a performance season. Attendance is mandatory, with exceptions granted for medical or family emergencies. Other classes and activities are acceptable as long as they do not conflict with program requirements.

12. Outside Activities - Company members may take additional classes at other places of their choice as long as these activities do not interfere with Company requirements and obligations.

13.  Outside Performances - Company members may perform with other organizations of their choice as long as these activities:

  • Do not interfere with Company requirements and obligations.

  • Maintain a good reputation and representation of the Company member.

​

14. Promotions and Advertising - Each company dancer under the age of 18 may advertise themselves as representatives of their home studio in our performance program.

Penalties

A penalty fee will be charged to the parents of a minor child if obligations are not fulfilled. A deposit will be collected at the beginning of the season and returned at the end of their obligation. This ensures the commitments of all Company members and mitigates the impact of absences on the group.

These policies govern the operations of the Artistic Dance Theater Company and ensure the organization’s mission is carried out effectively and cohesively.
